We joined in the RSPB “big garden birdwatch” this year and were even more disappointed than usual. To be fair, our expectations of the number of species is usually unrealistically high but this year we only saw five birds during the entire hour and three of them were pigeons!

However, we were treated to the sight of a bluetit which took advantage of the seeds we put out. He (I think, but I’m not an expert) would pick up a seed from the feeder and then fly a few feet away to a nearby hedge. Because there were no leaves this time of year we could watch as it pecked at and fed from the seed. It did it several times – often enough for me to  attempt a photo or two.
